California State University, San Bernardino invites applications and nominations for the Dean of University Libraries. The University seeks an innovative, forward-thinking, and student-focused leader to continue success in the next exciting chapter of the University Libraries. Reporting directly to the Deputy Provost/Vice Provost for Academic Programs, the Dean is expected to assume office in July 2022.
California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB)—a preeminent center of intellectual and cultural activity in the Inland Empire—is part of the California State University system (CSU), the largest system of higher education in the country.
The 441-acre park-like campus blends modern facilities with wide expanses of beautifully maintained landscapes and panoramic views of the San Bernardino Mountains. It is conveniently located 55 miles east of Los Angeles and 10 miles from the historic downtown of San Bernardino.
The Dean of University Libraries is responsible for managing all college library resources (fiscal, personnel, facilities, technological, and information resources); leading library faculty and staff members in a team-oriented environment, providing thoughtful mentoring, professional development, and advocacy; administering all library services and their archives, assuring sound operations; and serving as a member of the Dean’s Council, the Provost’s Leadership Team, and the CSU Council of Library Deans (COLD).
The ideal candidate will have an MLS or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited program and several years of progressively responsible leadership experience in academic library administration at an ALA-accredited institution of higher education. Preference will be given to those with an earned doctorate from an accredited institution.
