New Mexico State University (NMSU) invites confidential inquiries, nominations, and applications for the position of Dean of the Graduate School (DGS). The Dean reports directly to the provost and is responsible for the development, administration, and promotion of the Graduate School and its programs ensuring high quality instruction in a safe and engaging learning environment. As a Land-Grant University, NMSU is committed to the creation and dissemination of knowledge that serves the interests of the Nation, New Mexico and students who access the institution. NMSU offers a wide range of graduate programs, both face-to-face and online, which position graduate students to compete for jobs in Creative Arts, Education, Humanities, Social Sciences, Health, and STEM fields.
Duties of the Dean include to:
- Serve as leader, administrator, and evaluator of an academic School and the programs it encompasses.
- Promote academic achievement and student satisfaction consistent with established education objectives, quality standards and fiscal responsibility.
- Supervise and evaluate assigned personnel and is responsible for development and/or administration of budgets in areas of supervision.
- Seeks and pursues/motivates others to pursue potential sources of funding for the School.
- Provide leadership for the School in fund-raising to support the School’s goals.
- Works collaboratively with the Provost, the Academic Deans of the other Colleges, and with the NMSU Graduate Council as an advisory body of faculty.
- Serve as liaison between the School and the university community, community agencies, businesses and other groups, advisory committees, state and national groups.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, corporate and Department of Education regulations. Seek/maintain degree program approval from licensing agencies, regional and national accreditation councils.
