The University
Founded in 1801, the University of South Carolina (USC) Columbia is the flagship institution of the University of South Carolina System—the leading educator for the state, serving more than 52,000 students across eight campuses. More than 6,000 full- and part-time faculty and staff members are employed at USC Columbia, where Fall enrollment consistently exceeds 30,000, with students hailing from all 50 states and more than 90 nations. The flagship campus includes sixteen colleges and schools with 922 tenured faculty, 270 tenure-track faculty, and 621 professional-track faculty, many of whom have earned significant recognition, placing the university in the top 5% of public universities in the nation for the number of national faculty awards received. USC operates two medical school campuses (one each in Columbia and Florence) and is home to the state’s only public law school. With over 730,000 residents in the greater metro area, Columbia is one of the largest cities in the state and is within a 2-hour drive to nearby beaches, within 90 minutes of the Appalachian Mountains, and within 20 minutes of nearby Lake Murray.
About the Position
The Executive Director for Infrastructure Services (EDIS) is one of nine senior leadership positions reporting directly to the Vice President for IT and CIO. The Infrastructure Services team includes 32 professionals, seven of whom report directly to the EDIS; this team is currently working on the multiple ongoing projects: migration to the cloud environment; a massive file share migration; and upgrades to the existing infrastructure, application and systems. In addition to working with other Executive Directors in the Division of IT, the EDIS must coordinate well with IT personnel across campus and across the USC System to understand the unique needs and concerns that exist across the University’s user community. This work requires an innovative and collaborative leader with the technical expertise and managerial skills to create a roadmap and clear direction as the team works to ensure a consistent user experience across the campus. The EDIS must lead the rollout and implementation of a reliable system that will meet current and future needs of the University community.
