South Central College (SCC), a comprehensive community college within the Minnesota State system, has announced its search for president. The college and its communities seek a president who is an engaged and innovative educational leader. The president will bring a deep passion, informed by experience, for academic transfer and vocational-technical programs designed to ensure that students are able to achieve their goals. The ideal candidate will have a vision for fulfilling the college’s mission as a driver of economic and civic well-being for the Faribault and Greater Mankato communities. This vision will be demonstrated through accessible and relevant learning opportunities, delivery of holistic support services, partnerships that maintain mutually beneficial relationships with business and industry, and events and activities that invite community members to the college’s physical spaces.
With a budget of approximately $30 million, SCC offers a full complement of credit, noncredit, and continuing education programs. Relations with the K-12 systems are strong, and dual enrollment students are a significant portion of the college’s student body. Workforce development is a point of pride, and thousands of alums still live and work in the SCC service area.
The student population of SCC is 4,500, split evenly between career and transfer pathway programs. 44% of SCC students are Pell eligible, persons of color, and/or first generation. The Inclusion Centers at both campuses provide a setting for building on the SCC commitment to expand diversity and understanding, and to serve as a model for the community. The college’s focused strategies have resulted in notable progress toward reducing equity gaps in student success. In meeting students where they are, SCC has expanded student supports to provide free tutoring, on-campus social workers, and referrals to community resources. For its efforts in student equity and upward mobility, SCC has been recognized as a “Leader College” by Achieving the Dream.
SCC’s Faribault and North Mankato campuses are located in the heart of desirable south Minnesota. The Minneapolis-St. Paul area is a short drive, offering urban amenities and access to a major airport. South Minnesota is known for its beautiful lakes and rivers, and is rich with outdoor, recreational, sporting, and cultural activities. Residents enjoy a low cost of living, great schools, and a welcoming community feeling.
