Hamline University invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice President of Institutional Advancement (VPIA). Located in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Hamline is one of the nation’s premier liberal arts institutions. The new VPIA will take office in Summer 2025.
Reporting directly to the newly appointed President, Dr. Mayme Hostetter, the incoming VPIA will architect and execute a bold vision for advancement that amplifies Hamline’s distinctive mission of excellence and community impact. Supported by a staff of sixteen and an operating budget of approximately $750k, the VPIA will provide leadership and management of the university’s development and advancement activities in support of the university’s strategic goals and objectives. Responsibilities include campaign planning and delivery, major and planned giving, annual giving, grants and corporate/foundation relations, alumni and constituent relations, advancement operations, and conference and event management. As a member of both the President’s staff and the University Leadership Team, the VPIA will balance strategic thinking, leadership capability, and hands-on fundraising expertise to provide campaign leadership and direction of alumni engagement and annual giving initiatives.
Hamline currently enrolls 2,605 students, of which 1,846 are undergraduate and 759 are graduate, and employs over 100 full-time faculty. The university offers more than 75 undergraduate program areas, an online bachelor’s degree completion program, and over 50 graduate degrees, licenses, and certificate programs including 12 master’s degrees and two doctoral degrees.
Hamline seeks an individual with experience in advancement in the non-profit sector and a demonstrated track record of maintaining strong and productive relationships. The new VPIA will have comprehensive oversight of development strategies with a particular focus on expanding the endowment, operations, and facilities funding. In addition to personally managing relationships with high-net-worth donors and trustees, the incoming VPIA will form strong collaborative relationships across the university, working with diverse stakeholders across the university community. Experience in creating, leading, and implementing comprehensive campaigns is required. The base salary range for this position is $180,000 – $225,000.
