The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Dentistry invites applications for the Associate Dean for Research, a full-time, senior-level tenure-track faculty position. UAB, a Carnegie R1 research university, had record high research grants and awards totaling $638 million in FY20 and ranked 20th in NIH funding in the United States. The School of Dentistry has consistently ranked highly in NIH/NIDCR funding.
The successful candidate will develop and lead a major research program within the School of Dentistry; engage the substantial expertise throughout the UAB campus and take a leadership role with research activities and initiatives; provide leadership and management of the school’s research enterprise. Responsibilities to support the school’s research enterprise include strategic planning for research; assisting with recruitment and retention of research faculty and staff; mentoring and advising; reviewing and approving research proposals; and overseeing compliance with university research policies and procedures. Additionally, the associate dean will be expected to continue an individual successful research enterprise as an example for fellow faculty.
Applicants should possess a DDS/DMD/MD and/or PhD or equivalent with a history of leadership, research funding, and productivity in the broadly defined area of oral health research.
