Madeleine Wing Adler is a Senior Associate at the American Association of State Colleges and Universities AASCU-Penson Center for Professional Development, was President of West Chester University for 16 years, and was lead coach, 2016-2019, for the executive coaching innovation in AASCU’s Millennium Leadership Initiative.
At West Chester University, Madeleine promoted a strategic vision of excellence, a “distributed leadership” approach to institutional leadership, increased enrollment, and two successful capital campaigns. She previously held administrative positions at Framingham State College (now University) and the City University of New York system. Her facilitation specialties include executive coaching, strategic planning, top management team building, and transitions in universities.
A political scientist, Madeleine holds a B.A. from Northwestern University and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She has taught at Queens College, CUNY; Pennsylvania State University and American University. Other positions range from Chair, Board of Directors, Chester County (Pennsylvania) Community Foundation to Staff Member, Joint Committee on the Organization of Congress.
Among other publications, she is the author of “An Introvert Takes a New Look at Leadership” in Public Purpose and “Higher Education and the Politics of Investment” in Vital Speeches of the Day, and co-author of “Governors and Higher Education: Politics, Budgeting and Policy Leadership” in State Government.
