Ms. Disa Mason is as an Academic Search Associate Consultant-turned-Consultant spans nearly two decades, making her one of the most experienced members of the firm. In addition to her work as a Consultant, Ms. Mason served for two years as the Assistant Director of Academic Search’s parent organization, the American Academic Leadership Institute, which greatly expands her network and ability to reach top-tier candidates.
Ms. Mason works alongside Academic Search senior consultants and plays a fundamental role in ensuring that searches run smoothly and end successfully. She has an affinity for each institution’s culture and makes a concerted effort to reflect its unique identity in her position profiles and during conversations with potential candidates. By combining her experience with her vested interest in finding the best possible applicants, Ms. Mason can assemble a cadre of candidates who are not only qualified for the position, but enthusiastic and inspired to join the administration. Ms. Mason finds satisfaction in making the search and hiring committees’ decisions difficult because so many excellent applicants are presented.
Since joining Academic Search in 2005, Ms. Mason has completed searches at every level across an array of institution types throughout the country, from presidents at public universities to deans of private colleges to technical positions at community colleges. She’s also been part of searches for university-affiliated programs, including art museums and laboratories. Ms. Mason provides sound experience in searches that are unique or on a short timeline, and she can confidently address any issues that may arise during the search process. The total number of searches she’s facilitated is in the triple digits.
Ms. Mason earned a bachelor’s degree in East Asian studies from Vanderbilt University and spent two years in Japan as an assistant language teacher and cultural liaison. She then earned her MBA from the University of Texas at Austin and spent a decade in sales and marketing at the Campbell Soup Company. Ms. Mason is deeply committed to her work and enjoys customizing each search to make it a personable and successful endeavor for each institution.
