Bethany Zecher Sutton
Bethany Zecher Sutton joined Academic Search in 2018, following 17 years of service to the higher education community as a member of the leadership team at the Association of American Colleges & Universities (AAC&U). She brings to Academic Search a passion for identifying and cultivating the next generation of leaders in American higher education. Her work as a leadership coach and as a faculty fellow with HERS has sparked a particular interest in supporting leadership development for women in the academy. At AAC&U, Bethany played a central role in the association’s work to advance quality and equity in undergraduate education, working with colleagues across the entire spectrum of the higher education community. She also served as secretary to the board and staffed several leadership groups at AAC&U, bringing her in contact with hundreds of senior leaders from all types of institutions. Prior to her position at AAC&U, she worked in the provost’s office at the University of Pennsylvania, where her role included serving as the staff liaison for search committees seeking to fill senior level positions with direct reports to the provost. Bethany holds a graduate certificate in leadership coaching from Georgetown University; an MA in history from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and a BA in history from Mary Washington College. Her areas of expertise and interest include leadership development; organizational change; strategic planning; and leadership transitions.
